Dr. V's Smile of the Month
Unfortunately, accidents happen. Such was the case for one of our younger patients whose mother contacted the office recently. He had been pedaling ferociously down the street when the chain on his bicycle snapped, sending him face first over the handlebars and onto the street below.
Thankfully, he was not seriously injured, but his two front teeth took the brunt of the collision. Of course, his mother was concerned about her son's smile and wondered what we could do. We enjoy being able to help in a situation such as this, preserving a smile that is meant to last a lifetime.
The fractured teeth were repaired with direct bonding in one appointment lasting about 45 minutes. Our office was able to provide an esthetically pleasing and long-lasting result, with minimal expense as compared to more complex procedures like porcelain veneers or crowns.
Best of all, our fearless patient is back riding his bike, with a happy smile to boot.

Introducing CEREC, All-Ceramic Restoration
Vacek Family Dentistry is pleased to announce the incorporation of CEREC 3D technology into the office. CEREC is an all-ceramic restoration that can be fabricated and permanently seated in one dental appointment. This technology allows our office to provide our patients with the very best restoration possible with the added convenience of fewer appointments. CEREC recently celebrated its 20th anniversary on the market, and recent advancements have cemented its place as the technology of the future in dentistry. For this reason, we are confident it is time for our patients to begin enjoying the benefits of CEREC dentistry.
Traditionally speaking, a crown or partial crown restoration has always required two appointments. At the first, the dentist prepares the broken or decayed tooth, takes an impression for the dental lab, and fabricates a temporary crown. Reputable labs usually require about two weeks to fabricate a quality restoration. In the meantime, patients wore a temporary crown. Unfortunately, temporaries by their very nature do not fit as well as the permanent restoration. Because of this fact, they are prone to debonding and can irritate the surrounding tissues. Until now, we did not have a better option for our patients.
For the same crown in our office today, we are able to prepare the tooth in a much more conservative manner, saving as much healthy tooth structure as possible. We then take a picture to capture a digital image of the prepared tooth, eliminating the need for a tray full of impression material. The restoration is designed three-dimensionally and milled right here in the office. It is then chemically bonded to the remaining healthy tooth for a beautifully natural looking and long-lasting result. The whole process takes about an hour and thirty minutes, and our patient leaves with their permanent restoration completely finished.
With CEREC, less is more......
- fewer appointments means less of your time
- fewer anesthetic injections
- less reduction of natural tooth structure
- fewer impressions
- no temporary
....and most importantly, a more satisfied patient, which is our ultimate goal.
