What Is A Cone Beam Scanner?

SOPHISTICATED DIAGNOSTIC OPTIONS AT YOUR FINGERTIPS FOR ENDODONTICS,
PERIODONTICS, IMPLANTOLOGY, ORTHODONTICS AND SURGERY.

A cone beam scanner or system is a large x-ray machine that uses cone beam computed topography (CBCT) to scan a patient’s entire jaw. This captures a clear, detailed, and 3D image that can be rotated, enlarged, and highlighted as necessary to help dentists confirm the best treatment options. This 3D imaging provides us with a far more detailed picture of your mouth.

The scan only takes 14 seconds to complete and is used for many different purposes. It also emits less radiation because it relies on digital imaging; much less than a traditional x-ray machine. These images are then projected onto a large screen that can be viewed and manipulated by your dentist. The Lincoln office uses the Orthophos XG 3D system to provide an exact picture of your entire mouth, giving dentists a clearer picture of your overall oral health and the best treatment options for your health issues.

Cone beam scanners are typically used to identify problems patients are experiencing. This includes everything from tooth pain to infections patients may not have known about previously. Cone beam scanners are also useful for patients seeking dental implants. Using the built-in Galaxis software, dentists can pre-plan your dental surgery to make it easier and more effective.

What Is CEREC?

PRECISION AND SPEED FOR ONE DAY CROWNS

CEREC stands for “Ceramic Reconstruction”. It is a proven technology that gives Vacek Family Dentistry the ability to mill and place a crown in just a single office visit. CEREC employs 3D scanning to capture a digital image of your tooth and then craft a crown that matches the shape, size, and shade of your tooth in one convenient appointment.

In the past, when a patient needed to get a tooth fixed, the process would start with the dentist shaping the tooth to fit a dental restoration, and then they would take an impression using dental putty (everyone’s favorite part). This would then be sent to a dental lab where the crown, partial crown, or veneer would be designed and fabricated, and this usually took about two weeks. A patient would then return to their dentist’s office to have it placed into their mouth.

With CEREC, your dentist will still start by preparing your tooth, but then they will take the impression digitally, which is not only more comfortable but also yields a much better model of your teeth. This impression will be given to computer-aided design software to formulate your restoration’s shape, and this design will then be given to an in-house milling machine. Using a solid block of high-quality dental porcelain, the machine will precisely carve out the restoration, which can then be placed by your dentist.

Altogether, the entire procedure only takes about 90 minutes, making it a tremendous time saver for everyone involved.

Advanced Dental Technology

At Vacek Family Dentistry, we offer state-of-the-art, highly-advanced technology to provide patients with the best quality care. This includes our cone beam scanner, CEREC machine, Intraoral Cameras, Digital X-Rays and Laser Dentistry.

What Are Intraoral Cameras?

Intraoral cameras are cameras used inside the mouth that allow both the dentist and the patient to see what’s going on. They are a high-tech equivalent to using a mirror. What’s great is the images can be saved to the patient’s file for future reference.

What Are Digital X-Rays?

Digital x-rays use a sensor, instead of film encased in uncomfortable cardboard, to capture images of your teeth. Because the digital sensor is electronic and connected to a computer, once the x-ray is taken, the image is projected on a screen for Dr. Vacek to view. The most succinct diagnosis starts with the best image quality. NOMAD Pro 2 utilizes the latest in X-ray technology for precise, repeatable exposures that help to produce sharp, clear radiographic images. And the best part is that all of the benefits of this handheld unit can be attained with an eye on ALARA. With its intuitive user interface, the team member can select the right dose for each patient’s particular need.

What Is Laser Dentistry?

The use of soft tissue lasers uses pulsed beams of concentrated energy that allows us to enhance your gum health. Soft tissue lasers can treat cold sores, cavities, enhance a smile by reshaping the gums, eliminate benign tumors, whiten teeth, and more.

What are Digital Dentures?

Instead of trying in your denture teeth with wax and hoping it doesn’t change at the lab, we can use our 3D scanner to design a new trial denture after 1 short appointment. You will actually wear it home and make sure that you like how it looks and feels before we fabricate the final prosthesis.
